John Hammersmith Wins Distinguished Service Award

FALLS CHURCH, VA -- The National Board of Certification for Community Association Managers (NBC-CAM) has awarded John Hammersmith, CMCA, AMS, PCAM the Distinguished Service Award, one of the industry’s highest honors.  The award was presented at the Community Associations Institute’s Annual Conference in Boca Raton, Fla. NBC-CAM is an independent board that develops certification (known as the CMCA – Certified Manager of Community Associations®) and standards for community association managers. Worldwide.

Hammersmith, who has served on the NBC-CAM Board of Commissioners for seven years and six years as Chair of the Standards of Professional and Ethical Conduct Committee, has devoted innumerable volunteer hours to overseeing and improving the profession’s professional conduct standards. His contributions include reviewing, investigating and hearing nearly 100 alleged violations of the CMCA Standards of Professional Conduct as well as updating the enforcement procedures associated with conduct violations.  He has also updated the Standards to bring them in line with modern CMCA practices and professional challenges.

“John Hammersmith has been incredibly dedicated to raising the professional and ethical standards of the community association management profession,” said Robert Felix, CMCA, chair of NBC-CAM and senior vice president of Rossmar & Graham Management in Scottsdale, Arizona. “We are delighted to present him with an award that recognizes his exemplary leadership, outstanding service and unwavering commitment.”

The Distinguished Service Award is given to individuals and groups for extraordinary and exceptional service to NBC-CAM.  The award recognizes length of service on the board; significant leadership; organizing successful initiatives with widespread positive impact; advocacy; education; and work as an ambassador.

John Hammersmith is the chief executive officer of Hammersmith Management Inc., a 30-year-old management company with offices throughout Colorado.  He is a former board member and treasurer of the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Community Associations Institute.

â€śWhile it’s an honor and a privilege to be acknowledged by the NBC-CAM organization and my peers, all my work and contributions can be attributed to a team effort. I’ve been fortunate to work with intelligent, talented and dedicated colleagues within NBC-CAM, and even luckier to have the contributions and gifts of smart team members that have worked with me at Hammersmith Management. Nothing I’ve achieved within my volunteer work or professional career has been achieved through my sole efforts, it’s always been the result of partnerships,” said Hammersmith.

NBC-CAM is a 16-year-old independent board that develops certification and standards for community association managers. We administer the CMCA examination, a rigorous, three-hour test that measures managers’ knowledge of community management best practices. Passing the CMCA examination and maintaining the standards of the CMCA certification is proof that a manager is a knowledgeable, ethical and professional. CMCA-certified managers have the skills to safeguard the assets of homeowners’ associations, giving homeowners peace of mind and protecting home values. For more information, go to www.nbccam.org.
